Elissa Glickman is a licensed marriage and family therapist, specializing in individual, couple and family therapy, and maintains a private practice in Mamaroneck and New Rochelle, New York.
With over ten years experience in marriage and family therapy, and as a graduate of Iona College specializing in Marriage and Family Therapy, she is currently serving as a private practitioner working with a broad spectrum of clients. She is experienced with and enjoys working with clients from various backgrounds and diverse cultures.
Among her areas of expertise are: couples who feel stuck in bickering and misunderstanding; couples feeling sexually disconnected; individuals and families dealing with transitions due to the economy; couples who are dating and would like to build a strong foundation before making a commitment; families dealing with life transitions and daily stresses; individuals struggling with anxiety or depression; individuals that want to bring positive change and growth into his or her life; individuals dealing with career struggles or other personal issues; parents feeling frustrated and disconnected with their children; couples struggling with extended family loyalties and involvement; plus many other life issues.
In addition to being a prominent relationship therapist, Elissa is trained in divorce mediation and as a divorce coach. Her newest specialty is a new practice called Discernment Counseling. She is very excited about offering this approach to couples and families where one partner is leaning out of the marriage or relationship towards separation and the other wants to save the relationship. This is a low pressure approach to help each partner have greater clarity and confidence for the direction of their marriage or relationship. This is short term and is not couple therapy, but may lead to trying couple therapy before making a final decision to save the relationship or help them better understand what happened to get them to this point and how to move forward in the healthiest way.
She also loves working with couples who are engaged or are newly committed and has developed a premarital package for this couple.
Elissa is a warm, compassionate and active therapist. Her collaborative therapeutic approach is to provide support and practical feedback to help clients effectively address personal life challenges. She integrates complementary methodologies and techniques to offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each client. With compassion and understanding, she works with each individual to help them build on their strengths and attain the personal growth they are committed to accomplishing.
